Biermann was a resident of Rochester and was a former Olmsted County Auditor (1875-1880), Democratic nominee for Secretary of State in 1875, Democratic nominee for the 1st CD race in 1882 and 1884. Biermann was just the second Democrat to win statewide election since the party swept the statewide offices in 1857 (following Edwin W. Dyke in 1873 for Treasurer, nominated by the Democrats and Anti-Monopolists).

McGuire was a resident of Crookston and served as Polk County Auditor since 1881.

Kron was a merchant from Evansville, the president of the first and second Evansville village councils, the Evansville postmaster, the Prohibition nominee for Lieutenant Governor in 1892, and Prohibition nominee for the 7th CD in 1894.
