Brown was a Norwegian-born Register of Deeds for Faribault County (1872-1890) and resident of Blue Earth City.

Lindholm was a Stillwater merchant and notary public who had previously founded a bank with Secretary of State Hans Mattson in St. Paul in the 1870s.

Wesenberg was a Norwegian-born newspaperman from Duluth and Midroad Populist nominee for Secretary of State in 1898.

Hilleboe, a professor and principal at the Minnesota Lutheran Seminary and Institute in Willmar, was later the Prohibition Party nominee for governor in 1894.
