MacDonald, an attorney and former newspaper publisher, was a state Senator (SD 18, 1871-1872; SD 21, 1873-1877) and former state Representative (HD 18, 1869-1871).
Sargent was a resident of Plainview and attempted to withdraw his name from the ballot.
