Munch was a resident of Chengwatana and former state Representative (HD 02, 1861-1862). He defeated H.P. Christenson for the nomination at the GOP convention by a vote of 101 to 40. Munch was also the son-in-law of his successor, William Seeger.
Friedrichs was a resident of Goodhue County.
Chatfield was the Democratic nominee for Attorney General.
Cornell was the Republican nominee for Attorney General and was victorious in that race.
