Cornell, a Minneapolis attorney, was a former three-term state Representative (HD 05, 1861-1863, 1865-1866). He was later elected to the Minnesota Supreme Court (1875-1881).
Chatfield was an Associate Justice of the Territorial Supreme Court (1853-1857).
Friedrichs was the Democratic nominee for state Treasurer in 1867.
Munch was the Republican nominee for state Treasurer in 1867 and was victorious in that race.
