Aitkin County

Aitkin County is located in Northeastern Minnesota and was established on May 23, 1857 (as "Aiken" County) by the Territorial Legislature. The county was named for William Aitkin, a clerk for the American Fur Company who married Stripped Cloud in 1818, a member of a prominent Ojibwa family. The city of Aitkin is the county seat.
