Notes: Banning was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on the Native American Party ticket. Banning left banking to enter service in the Civil War. After his service he became president of the Lake Superior and Mississippi River Railroad Company from 1864 to 1871 which built a railroad from St. Paul to Duluth. He became a Democrat in 1872.
