Notes: Prior to the Civil War, Austin taught in Saint Anthony. After his governorship he was appointed Third Auditor of the United States Treasury, served for seven years in the U.S. Interior Department, and was a Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner. Austin was also an attorney.
