Notes: | Born Beverly Ann Hilgers. Bales grew up on a farm in Barnesville, Minnesota and began work for IBM as an executive secretary in Des Moines in 1958, later transferring to White Plains, New York in 1968 to become IBM’s first female instructor for the field engineering division. She then transferred to Minneapolis in her new role as an assistant personnel manager at the company. Bales founded an on-and-off sale business in Nelson, Minnesota with her husband in 1973 which she ran until 2000. |
